Chapter
1
Ritty
was a dark pink strawberry with ADHD! He constantly had messy green leaves and he
was very crazy! At his Strawberry School, Ritty had lots of friends. But not
all the time. Sometimes Ritty would stare out the window in lessons, making his
friends get angry with him. Ritty often worked out the answers so fast that he
would soon forget the answer, or, change it. For example, 4x8 would be turned into
40x8/2. He would take ages to work out 4x8, but he took TEN SECONDS to work out
40x8/2! For harder sums, Ritty would instantly put the correct answer. When
Ritty asked a question, when he talked and when he gave answers, no-one
understood him because he talked so fast. With every question, every reply,
every answer, Ritty was the fastest talker and the cleverest strawberry!
Chapter
2
At
playtimes, Ritty always played games about maths and fancy handwriting with
other Strawberries. They didn't like it, Ritty did. Soon, Ritty was taken to
talk to his maths teacher. He was the cleverest in the class, so he then went
for maths lessons with a different teacher to do very hard sums. After two
weeks of this, Ritty was given even harder sums. This was better than the super
easy sums the rest of this class got. The others in the class were doing times
tables at the moment. So was Ritty, but he had sums like 100x800/6+18-9! Ritty
was good and quick at everything, except for eating. He was the slowest eater.
He missed lunch play, because he was always working out sums, not eating! Ritty
always missed PE, because he was still on the last item of his lunch, the
drink. Ritty had spent his lunch time working out 100x800/6+18-9, it was
13,342.33333! Ritty was constantly asking his friends if they knew the answer
to it, they didn't as they couldn't understand.
Chapter
3
Ritty
had lots of homework. Even though it was sums that he knew, it took an hour of
screaming first. Ritty was still shouting as he put the answer to 9x9x2 as 162,
the last question after 3 minutes of doodling on the sheet. Once, homework had
been to write a booklet about his holidays. The rest of his class had brought
theirs in, Ritty had forgotten where his was! In lessons, Ritty had lots of
energy. He bounced on his seat, kicked his legs, twisted round to check answers
and drew banners and squiggles on his worksheets. The teachers got angry and
shouted "Ritty! Stop fidgeting and CONCENTRATE!" This always upset
Ritty.
Chapter
4
At
home, Ritty was always frustrated with his parents. He had hours of crying,
screaming and being sent upstairs for bad behaviour. This was the usual
behaviour that Ritty's parents always tried to cope with. Ritty's parents heard
angry shouting, loud screaming and furious stomping round bedrooms. This was
ignored completely as Ritty had just been crashing and bashing downstairs.
Ritty had been told off and given a snack. Ritty looked at it sadly. It was a
small packet of tiny purple berries. Ritty slowly swallowed the berries. After
that, Ritty dug out the strawberry puzzle book, the hardest one, from his maths
drawer. He opened it to coordinates and read the instructions. The instructions
were: 'Draw a seed in O,9. Draw a leaf in A,10'. Whilst Ritty was doing that,
his Mummy told his Daddy "I'm taking Ritty to Doctor Bramble on Thursday.
I got the questionnaires yesterday." Ritty's Daddy replied "Ok.
Discuss how clever he is and show him these maths questions." As they
finished talking, Ritty was starting a new page, Division. This was his fourth page that he was doing
today.
Chapter
5
Ritty
was nervous and worried as his Mummy told Doctor Bramble about the tantrums and
hard maths. Then Ritty started to jump, run and hop round the room. Doctor
Bramble asked Ritty's Mummy "How do you calm him down?" Ritty's Mummy
looked at Ritty, she replied "with tiny purple berries. It sometimes works, other times it
doesn't." Ritty stopped and sat down again. Doctor Bramble said to Ritty's
Mummy "He is an ADHD Strawberry. If you give him Ritalin, he will be
calmer."
Chapter
6
Ritty's
Mummy gave Ritty a quarter of a Ritalin pill. It had no effect. Then, the next
day, Ritty was given half a pill, a little effect happened. It wasn't enough
though, Ritty still had a lot of energy. On the next day, three quarters. More
effect. Lastly, a full pill. This had the best effect. A full pill had
decreased the energy in Ritty. He stayed on a full one as it made him a lot calmer
and school was much better for him.
